Death of the Scooby Gang

Author: Omegar <jack_o_t[at]mikado.eeng.may.ie>

Rating: clean for now, doubt this will go any higher than bad language.

Relationships: B/X. Friendships mainly. (Also W/T and B/R but that?s because they are established at the time the story is set)

NO CHARACTER DEATH! Just in case the title confuses people.

A/N: this is the response to a challenge given o me as a result of a bet on a rugby match (bloody missing that kick Gah!!)

Also I meant to say thank you to the guys at http://www.buffy-vs-angel.com for the transcripts, story wouldn?t have been possible without them.

The challenge is as follows:

Pairing: Buffy/Xander

Basic outline: After the enjoining spell that let the Scoobies take out ADAM, Buffy has a better understanding of why Xander and Willow are helping her (given that they were basically in the same body for that, it shouldn't come as ****that** much of a surprise). Since Xander was the 'Heart' of the spell, she also realises just ****how** far his feelings for her go, but, after the way she and Willow have been trying to push him aside over the last year they're starting to go a little wobbly. Fearing the possibility of losing Xander' friendship, she starts bringing Xander back into the group, and things go on from there.

Prologue

Unity felt the last of it' creators slip in to place, and suddenly Unity was in control. It remained in hiding for a second. Well a second for it, Unity was a soul, and it had control of a body directly, it didn't need the brain, and it was faster, so much faster.

It could feel each part of it, the Spirit, the mind, the heart and the body it currently controlled, the hand.

Finally it stood despite the onslaught of its enemy's gun

It looked at its enemy as it spoke.

"You can't last much longer"

Unity considered all of the answers that popped up from the heart, as much fun as they would be, they didn't match the gravity of the situation

"We can. We are forever."

Unity decided it was time to act. It could already feel itself weaken so it began to chant the spells it would need, first a shield and then the paralyse spell.

The enemy however had other plans.

While the shield was stopping the bullets from the gun that the enemy was shooting at it, the enemy fired a rocket at it. That would go through the shield no problem. The mind offered up another spell that might be of use.

Unity held up her hand and whispered "Kur", the Spirit and hand watched in surprise and unity almost collapsed. It was the heart that pulled them back into unity fully.

The enemy tried a physical attack, but unity was moving so much faster that it was easy to block them. Finally unity had had enough, it reached out and grabbed the head of the enemy.

"How…can you "

Again unity reviewed the response, and this time the heart had the best option

"You could never hope to understand the source of our power"

With that unity used the body of the hand to punch the enemy to the ground, then pick him up and kick him against the wall. Reaching in unity removed the source of power for the enemy.

Again the heart prompted a line

"But yours is right here"

As the enemy collapses to the ground dead, unity begins the spell to discard the power source of the fallen enemy.

A success unity decided that now is time to go, it can feel the weakness of each of its parts.

Chapter 1

Xander found himself running towards the Garage exit of the initive, a short bit behind him was Willow. His mind was running faster than it had ever run. So much had happened, so much he hadn't expected to happen. So much he understood.

Giles had said that some memories and knowledge would go back to the wrong body.

Flashback: Giles apartment.

"So what are the dangers of this spell?" Buffy had that tone of voice that meant she needed answers shortly, or someone would have to pay the price.

"Well if it goes wrong our bodies will be left as hollow shells, but don't worry, I am sure willow will get it right." Giles smile seemed to slip slightly till he saw Buffy staring at him, at which point he widened it.

"Emm what about side affects, and long term effect?" Xander asked.

"Am I going to be stuck being able to read your minds again?" Demanded Buffy.

"Well to be honest the last time this was tried no one recorded the after effects too much, but what was noted that some memories went to the wrong place, but they faded away to memories of memories within a few days."

"Memories of memories? What the hell does that mean?" asked Xander.

Willow looked up from the spell book she was reading, "you know the way you used to sit in an exam and you would remember you had the knowledge, but you couldn't remember what 2 + 2 was, well that's the same."

"Hey that only happened once."

End Flashback

Xander reached the massive garage doors. They had being designed to allow two large trucks pass through at any time. They had also being designed to withstand a near miss from a nuclear blast.

Looking at it he had no idea how to open it without power. Looking around he couldn't see anything that might help. Hearing someone running up behind him. He quickly turned to make sure it wasn't a demon out to attack him. He relaxed when he saw it was Willow.

"I can't get this open. I have no idea where to even start looking." Xander quickly informed Willow.

"There should be an emergency release lever somewhere around here. You look on the left, I will look on the right."

Xander scanned the left hand side of the door, he found a manual access point, but it had no power. So he moved on looking for more. He heard a noise of an opening door. Looking over he saw that the right hand side of the door was opening, looking further he saw Willow standing at the manual station on the right hand side. She had pulled the cover off it and was turning a wheel.

Running back to the manual control on the left, he quickly copied willow and in short order was opening the left hand side of the door.

"How did you know?" he called over to Willow

"I don't know, one minute I am standing there trying to think what to do, and suddenly the memory of a manual handle popped up. I think it might be one of your Soldier memories."

"How is that possible? I don't even remember much from that period."

"I don't know, I guess it was the spell or something, it must have gone into even those memories that have faded. It might mean you could have access to them again."

Xander managed to keep a smile on his face until he was facing the wall, at which point the fear of all those memories coming back tore the smile from his face.

There were times that Willow just didn't get him. He was glad that he had never done that to her.

Flash back

Sitting in the bronze opposite to Xander, Willow was just wishing that the words he were speaking were for her. Instead Xander was using her to practice on

"You know how I feel about you. It's, uh, pretty obvious, isn't it? There's never been anyone else for me... but you. And we're good friends, and it's time to take the next step."

God how great it would be if these words where for her and not for Buffy. She would be so happy, she would have her Xander.

End Flash back

Xander was shocked, he remembered the conversation from the other side, it had been a few minutes before the earthquake. Oh God he had missed exactly how much Willow had cared for him. Thinking it was just friendship and so he had hurt her.

How could he apologise. He knew she had moved on, but this could have been a reason why they had drifted apart over the last few years.

Finally the wheel in his hand would turn no more, so looking over he saw that Willow was just finished as well. The Main doors to the iniative where now wide open.

Turning back towards the battle he saw that Buffy was taking good care of herself while fighting. With Giles watching her back she would be fine.

The scientists where starting to move towards the now open exit doors, with agents and M.P's covering them as much cover as they could. The Taser blasts and gunshots rang out around the entire complex.

Xander was going to move towards the combat, when he felt a hand on his shouldar, looking back he saw Willow.

"Don't go, we need to stay here to make sure that this area remains a clearway, so no demons block it. You know that."

"Yeah I do. I guess I just want to get in there and help. I know this is helping, but it just doesn't feel as though it is actually helping."

Willow looked out over the complex, and a look of worry developed on her face.

"Xander, Don't worry I think we are going to have trouble here."

Xander looked at where she was pointing and saw that the group of scientists heading towards them had three vampires heading right for them. This was not good.
